What we can do to help when an athlete suffers from a sports injury  ?

Osteopathy has been used in sports teams for a long time, and is now a main part of the sportsmen treatment protocole. Here is an article in french that relates about this fact. Click here.

Sports injuries tend to happen in 2 main situations:

  • When you exert yourself too much or when you do it too often, even in the case of a high level athlete who works out too hard without warming up.
  • When you don’t work out enough and you suddenly decide to practice a sport without warming up.

We always refer to muscle injuries when we talk about sports injuries but there are other structures that may also be injured (ligaments, bones, etc.). This is exactly what we will discover and treat.

The efficacy of joints mobilization has been questioned in several scientific studies. In 2004, The university of York proved that they improved ankle flexibility after a lateral ankle sprain. Another study tells that musculoskeletal manipulations could improve symptoms on lateral epicondylalgia (tennis elbow).

How does osteopathy help you?

  • Treatment efficiency

Your treatment with Marguin Osteopath

At MARGUIN OSTEOPATH  we will take a detailed history and perform clinical tests including osteopathic palpation to evaluate the state of the muscles, tendons, ligaments and joints.  Taking under consideration your lifestyle and general condition, your osteopath will perform a treatment that will be individualised to address your specific symptoms as well as any underlying imbalances to minimise and eliminate your discomfort.

If, according to the information given, you need to be referred to further specialists or need to perform complementary exams, your osteopath will write you a referral letter and offer a range of gentle treatments such as energy techniques, cranial techniques or neuromuscular techniques to help you decrease your symptoms.

Once we understand what causes the symptoms and what are the underlying contributing factors, we will work together to put a manageable regime (stretching, rebalancing and strengthening) in place.

The potential side effects of an osteopathy treatment are the following : fatigue for a few days, in case of inflammation you can feel some joints pain and sore muscles.
